The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger Regarding Sizing Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a different size category versus the original listing because of the remapping.
The company said the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Accounts
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
