Jair Bolsonaro taken into custody after being deemed a flight risk
The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.
The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.
Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.

Context of Sentencing
Bolsonaro was convicted of leading a scheme aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the national vote to his left-wing rival, President Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he knew of a plan which involved plans to kill his opponent and his running partner, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.
The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the support of the military leaders. The current president was inaugurated without problem on 1 January 2023.
But a week later, on the eighth of January, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed public facilities in the capital, BrasÃlia.
The police intervened and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.
The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, restore order and return him to office.
At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".
He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years after the completion of his term.
The former president called the court case a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the 2026 presidential election.
